Media Recommendations

Videos

We support video embeds for YouTube (only). Supply the value for the v parameter from your video's URL and we'll handle the rest. You can paste the v value on a scheduled page change on the project after selecting video as the format for the hero media type. Note that we are currently using YouTube URLs that do not include tracking information.

One deferred enhancement is to support other video providers, primarily Vimeo and privately hosted files. If you need support for these please file a ticket to let us know your timeline.

Images

Images, images everywhere! This guide will help you understand the different types of images and where they will be displayed. While you can still use our image library to get a URL and paste it into the field for that image (which is slower and less fun), the crowdfunding service offers an upgraded and far simpler upload-by-drag-and-drop feature. Even better this upload feature automatically resizes images for the correct purpose. Upload images that are close to the aspect ratios in the chart below, and we'll crop them appropriately.

Cropping will always be from the center of the image. If you want to ensure that the most important part of the image is visible, make sure that it is centered with plenty of extra space around the image's subject.

Also, lean towards engaging photos of people or areas of campus rather than logos or other graphics. People are more likely to engage with photos of people. Hero and Campaign/Product cards should really avoid text, as we will already overlay titles and subtitles on top of those images in a responsive fashion so the text is not cropped out on smaller screens and enhances accessibility compliance.

Image Optimization

To ensure your images load quickly and look good on all devices, consider the following tips:

  • File Format: Use JPEG for photographs or complex images with lots of colors and gradients. Use PNG for simple images, images with text, or images that require transparency.

  • Compression: Compress your images to reduce their file size. There are many free online tools that can do this without noticeably reducing image quality.

  • Resolution: Upload images at the highest resolution specified in the chart above. Images that are too small will look pixelated when stretched to fit larger screens.

Remember, the faster your page loads, the better the user experience, which can lead to higher engagement rates.
