Exclusions
Not everyone on a list will receive a copy of a message sent to the list, nor should they. Constituents may unsubscribe from various subscription categories, or be manually excluded on the edit-message form. If we attempt to email them and the message hard bounces, we automatically exclude them for a brief period to allow you time to clean your contact information and to protect your sender reputation. And lastly, you may optionally exclude people who have already registered for or declined to attend an event associated with the message.
Bounce Damper Period
To protect your sender reputation we enforce a bounce damper period of 0-3 weeks. What this means is that if a recipient (as identified by xid or email address) has hard bounced within that period, we will automatically exclude them from sends during that time.
This is for your own good. MSPs set up honeypot email addresses and monitor whether bounces are properly respected or continue to attract mail traffic. If you keep sending to an address that we already reported back to you is bad, they're going to look at you funny - and ultimately slow or stop accept accepting email from you. You don't want that!
Whether the bounce damper period is set to 0, 1, 2, or 3 weeks depends entirely on how timely your records team is picking up and cleaning your CRM data from our flagged bounces.
AlumnIQ can lower the bounce damper period as your data processing timelines become more systematized, reliable, and timely. Most clients live comfortably at the 2 week mark with very few moving down to 1 or 0, as processing bounced email noise isn't the most urgent priority for most partners.
Excluding Registrants & Declines

If you select one or more events, and check at least one of these boxes, the applicable constituents will be excluded from receiving their copy of your message.
Similar exclusion controls exist for signature events, but note that we only share registered/attended individuals for exclusion purposes from that system - declines for signature events are not yet available.

While editing your message you will see a live-updating preview of the exclusion summary based on your selected list, subscription category, and linked events.
